Here's a couple of inspiring videos that do a great job showcasing low budget gear with great results. First up is another tutorial from Vimeo Member TLA Productions (showed us the use of the DIY Ring light for use in Video), but this time he's showing us the RedHead lighting kit. Yeah this is the same stuff i've been talking about for a while now, but I really haven't been able to show you guys how well they work. TLA Productions does a better job at this, and it's great to see other people using it.

Next is a great little documentary short from Vimeo member Hello Stranger. Shot using the cheap $24.00 dollar shoulder support, a 50mm F/1.4 and a Sigma 20mm F/1.8. For Audio, it was just a Zoom H1. Just goes to show you that it's not all about expensive gear behind the picture. Post author@Ergin - I've heard that. These lights are the same head but sold under different ratings. Some say 1000w, some say 800w, some say 500w. I think depending on the bulb you get it could burn out prematurely. Try stepping down the wattage if you're burning them out.

Thing with these lights is you sneeze on the other side of the room and the bulbs burn. I have all 3 bulbs burned without even doing a proper shoot. Otherwise theyre fine :p especially as are heaters. I think Emm is using some other bulbs, not sure what...

I got them from an ebay seller, UK EARTHED was the title of the lights. Can't fault the seller, gave me a full refund and gave me free bulbs when I first complained that two bulbs blew almost instantly. The reason I sent them back was for the fact one blew into flames and the others stopped working.

I am a $24 shoulder support convert! I shot a masquerade ball last night for New Year's Eve with that and a mash-up of the Gini Rig, my Canon 60D and mostly the 50mm 1.4. Went for 5 hours without a hitch! Loved being able to free my hands, both! I am amazed and will probably be buying a second just as a backup! Exclamation Point!

@Chris Wilmshurst - That certainly sounds alarming. Where did you buy these? And has anyone else experienced similar incidents? I was just about to order some from ebay, hah.

I bought some cheap redhead lights which look identical to those. Would not recommend. Within one hour, one bulb blew up into flames, shooting glass through the mesh protecting the bulb. The other two just stopped working.

That little documentary is definitely impressive considering the gear, but unfortunately the idea has already been made into a feature-length doc.

This is after piecing together, a few of the other set-ups and systems you've posted. Including a Red Rock Micro system.
