Now that the Canon 60D has had time to hit the streets, emails are coming with questions about the Canon BGE9 Battery Grip. Unfortunately it's still too early for something aftermarket, but here's a closer look at the pricier Canon BG-E9 OEM grip.

For those who were wondering about how much extra height this grip adds to the DSLR body, I have two Canon 60D's side by side. Buttons and switches are similar to other Battery Grip models, but the most different feature is that it uses the LP-E6 batteries (same as 5DMarkII & &D), but loads the battery tray in from the sides like a Canon T2i. When they said they would make a camera in between the T2i and 7D, they weren't kidding.

@Brian R - The bigger is the Canon 85mm F/1.2L and the smaller looks to be the Canon 24-105mm F/4L (I think).

What lense are you using on those 60D's?

The magazine for lithium battery is fine,but recently the magazine for AA batteries does not work,when I used AA batteries made by Eveready.What could be the problem, magazine or the battery?

@Andrew - Yes it does balance a bit, but also adds the ability to have twice the run-time, and also makes it super easy to change out batteries if you're mounted to a stabilizer, rig, tripod, slider, jib, etc. The grip loads batteries from the side or back (rather than from the bottom).

Hey Emm, thanks for the great blog. I check it at least a couple times a week. I have purchased a few recommendations and appreciate your work.

I am interested in getting an aftermarket bg-e9, but would like to know if it helps balance the camera for video shooting. Any thoughts?

@Jim - It does not come with any batteries.

@francisco - Yes it does work. You should check out the cheap batteries I got that work with the battery meter here: httpss://cheesycam.com/canon-lp-e6-oem-for-cheap/

@Mr.Brown - there is a switch to disable the grip buttons.

Do the AF-on and Magnification buttons on the grip get in the way when holding it? I have large hands and thats the reason i'm thinking that this grip will make it easier to hold the camera. But as i see those buttons lay directly where i would be gripping it. Do they get pushed accidently very easily? Would you suggest waiting on the aftermarket version?
