NAB2012 - SmallHD announces 2 new DP7 LCD Monitors to add to their lineup and also a very clever molded 5D Mark II HDMI lock that attaches to the D-Ring (normally where the camera strap resides), and still provides access to all your other inputs. Currently I have the SmallHD DP4 (EVF) and the DP6 which works perfectly in our workflow. I don't know if i'll be able to afford the new DP7 LCD monitors, but i'm sure in for the HDMI lock. The information will be available at SmallHD.com

New Lilliput 7″ 5D-II/O/P HDMI Monitor

A few significant differences between the high end LCD monitors and cheaper versions are the lack of False Color, Peaking and or Focus assist features. There's also resolution, pixel density, color, and exposure accuracy. Although it may not be the best, Lilliput's new 7" 5D-II/P monitor is throwing down some of these features normally reserved for only high end HDMI monitors. Aries writes in and shares a video showcasing the peaking feature. [Thanks Aries]
The focus assist feature shows bright red lines on areas that are sharper on screen basically showing you what's in focus. In the new Lilliput monitor you'll also find other options like a Brightness Histogram, Exposure Zebras, and False Color.

Don't be confused with older Lilliput 5D-II/O lcd monitors, this version is listed with Peaking normally shown with a 'P' in the model information. There are a few different models to choose from and if it includes an 'O', that basically means it has HDMI output (pass through) available also. You can find more pretty pictures, and listed information following the link to the new Lilliput (click here).

Amuse 5″ HDMI LCD with Focus Assist

Amuse releases a 5" DSLR LCD with Focus Assist features that highlight objects in a Silver outline. [Thanks Johnny] It's a bare bones slim video monitor with only one HDMI input and can be powered by a single Canon, Panasonic, or Sony battery.

Choose aspect display ratio: switch between 4:3 and 16:9, with Underscan and Peaking features. Display Resolution: 800 x 480 (native 5D res) with a contrast Ratio: 600:1. The Amuse DSLR LCD monitor is about $50 dollars more than what you would find the larger Lilliput 5" HDMi LCD for, but the slim down size and weight might appeal better to some. There's some additional information following the link (click here).

SmallHD DP6 Firmware Upgrade Focus Assist
The old Focus Assist in the SmallHD DP6 HDMI LCD monitor would make the screen literally go black and show white lines in what was in focus. The problem was it was hard to see what you were trying to focus on. You can see an example in the video (above) of how dark the old Focus Assist feature was. Here you can see the new Focus assist feature (below) works much better than before acting more like an overlay.
I know i'm really late to update the DP6 firmware and it's probably been out for months, but i'm also using other LCD monitors so I was in no rush. When they said the SmallHD monitors were future proof, here's another example of how they've managed to continue to improve on the features. With a simple USB drive, you download the latest firmware from the SmallHD.com website, and then run the install. This update took only 30 seconds or so, and i'm back in business. I've had this monitor for quite some time, and although i've neglected it lately, with the new focus assist feature it feels like a totally different tool again.
Lilliput 7″ LCD with 5D Mark II Features

Aries writes in with a new product being advertised as the latest 2012 7" LCD monitor from Lilliput. This new LCD from Lilliput claims to have better support for the Canon 5D Mark II resolution. In fact, the model for the LCD is actually called the '5D-II' (without HDMI out) or '5D-II/O' (with HDMI pass through). The LCD with sunshade folded down is a slim 31mm. [Thanks Aries]

Resolution is 1024x600 for 16:9 widescreen support. With the special 5D-II feature turned on, the display should go to full screen utilizing the entire 7" screen minus grey bars, and no video black out or delay when starting and stopping Video Recording. Seems like it's designed to handle the resolution drop to 480 output which sounds like it could work well with every other Canon camera that does the same (minus 7D). Hopefully it's a better screen than previous models, but no peaking, focus assist, or false color exposure stuff, pretty standard outside of the 5D-II feature. Look what the cat dragged in – Swivi

Look what the cat dragged in. Anyone else get theirs yet? I'm a bit tied up today, but i'll try to get something together before the weekend. I'm interested to see if anything has been changed in the hardware or software since the prototype. If your new and a bit clueless to what this is, you can find an older article about this Swivi here: http://cheesycam.com/swivi-5-6-lcd-now-available/.
Swivi 5.6″ LCD – Now Available
I had the chance to play with a prototype of this monitor, but still have not had the chance to see the final version. I hear it's been upgraded quite a bit on build quality and software menu. I remember a few people commented on this blog that they picked one up at PDN New York last month. Where's the reviews? Hopefully i'll still be able to check out the final version at some point.
